Schematic of Expression Patterns of Regulatory Factors

Regulation of eve stripe 2

smallfig7.gif

Expression patterns of the regulatory factors important for stripe 2 regulation as shown schematically (A). Stripe 2 expression is activated by Bcd and Hb in a broad anterior domain. This activation is repressed by Gt protein anteriorly and Kr protein posteriorly to set the borders of the stripe (B). All four genetically defined regulators of stripe 2 expression bind in vitro to multiple sites in a 480 bp minimal enhancer (C) that is necessary and sufficient for directing expression at the position of eve stripe 2. The relative positions of binding sites for Bcd (B1-B5), Hb (H), Kr (K) and Gt (G1-G3) are shown.
