Two 500 bp enhancers are located in the first 5kb of the promoter.

The embryos are from transgenic lines that contain the stripe 2 (Top) or the stripe 3 (Bottom) enhancer driving the expression of a lacZ reporter gene. The stripe 2 enhancer directs the expression of stripe 2 only. The stripe 3 enhancer directs expression of stripe 3 and stripe 7.
